Reducing Stress and Achieving Balance through Integrative Therapies


Chronic stress disrupts our ability to stay in balance by keeping our body in a constant state of emergency. Chronic stress results in serious health conditions, makes us more susceptible to accidents and injuries, and can lead to severe chemical imbalances resulting in depression. Symptoms of depression may include low self-esteem, inability to think clearly, obsessive thinking, and insomnia.

 

Bodywork relieves the stress and chronic pain that may lead to depression. Massage relaxes tight muscles, raises endorphin levels, improves lymph circulation, and works as a mood elevator relieving anxiety and depression. By stimulating your body’s parasympathetic nervous system, massage counteracts your negative response to stress.

 

Acupuncture, Acupressure and Shiatsu rebalance the flow of chi along the meridians, or energy pathways, of the body. Depression is a symptom associated with deficiency, or stagnation of chi. Combining acupressure with guided imagery and breathing techniques can result in opening up to helpful insights, those “aha” experiences that provide the connection between pain in the body and emotions held deep within. Science has proven that every cell within our body contains the memory of all our experiences. This cellular memory can be accessed and processed through bodywork resulting in stress reduction with the release of blocked feelings and chronic body tension.

 

Many of our stress responses are conditioned responses learned when we were young. Working through emotional blockages can help alleviate feelings of grief, fear, anger, resentment, and loss. Feelings, which when ignored, find their way into painful body symptoms. Our bodies have an intelligence, negative feelings when denied expression, lodge in the tissues and gain expression through the pain we begin to experience.

 

Symptoms of blocked feelings, stress, and depression, include sleep disturbances, headaches, nausea, tightness in chest, fear, abdominal pain, anger and/or irritability.
